1959 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner (retractable hardtop) The retractable hardtop model was introduced by Ford in 1957 and continued in production through 1959. The steel roof retracts into the trunk with the push of a button. To accomplish this, Ford used 7 reversable motors, 10 solenoids, 8 circuit breakers, 10 multifunction switches, and 610 feet of wiring! 30,000 were built between 1957 and 1959. The early Skyliner models during 1959 were "Fairlane 500". The late 1959 Skyliner models were "Galaxy". This car is featured on the cover of The Madison's CD called "Drive".
